Job Description:

We have a long term opening in a very professional, first class
computer operations department. Qualified candidate must have 2+
years experience in deskside support. This is a remote controlled
environment and the operator's desk is in an office environment (not
housed on the data center floor). Network management is accomplished
via OpenView. The technical environment includes AS/400 midrange, RS-
6000 servers, Cisco Works, Lotus Notes, SMS, Active Directory,
PeopleSoft, BRM, WinNT and MS-Exchange. The desktop environment is
Windows XP utilizing MS-Office. Successful candidates must have
Windows interface and Microsoft tools experience.
The operator would be working on their own and must be comfortable
problem solving and working independently. The operations center acts
as the first point of contact for all technical problems (mainframe,
networks, off-hours tech support). As such, successful candidate must
have excellent customer service and communication skills. Must be
able to independently determine when it is appropriate to page backup
technical support depending on the system or application that is
down. Good judgment is required. Ability to document policies and
procedures with attention to detail.

Specific operations skills include: monitoring the infrastructure
with OpenView tools. Reset passwords for PowerBuilder applications.
Monitor the RS/6000 for the remote sites. Initiate scheduled jobs and
verify those jobs have successfully run on AS/400. Troubleshoot error
messages on the AS/400, RS6000 and Intel servers. Run daily, weekly
and monthly backups for AS/400, RS-6000 and Intel platforms using
BRMS, Arcserve, and TSM. Restart machines and run refresh libraries
after successful backup processing. Log problems with backups.
Research the cause of error messages on AS/400 and RS-6000 in order
to pass along to the appropriate programmer. Reset passwords for the
AS/400, NT users and enable users, devices and printers for the
AS/400. Approve and execute off-hours turnover forms for programmers
and other operators. Initiate service calls to vendors (when
appropriate).

The normal work schedule calls for 4 days "on" followed by 3
days "off". Three of the four work days are 12 hour days followed by
an alternating 8 hour or 4 hour day. Candidate must ber willing to
work either Saturday or Sunday. Primary 12 hour work shifts are 2000-
0800. Emergency coverage for other shifts due to illness/vacation may
be requested.
